Key facts and history
Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist from Duplin County, North Carolina, created the soft drink Pepsi and gave it the name "Pepsi-Cola" in 1898.[4] Roy Megargel, working with Charles Guth, acquired the Pepsi trademark from Craven Holding in 1931; Guth then utilized the resources of Loft, Incorporated to develop a new formula and market Pepsi.[5] After prevailing in a shareholder lawsuit, Loft formally incorporated Pepsi into its own operations, and the entity was renamed the Pepsi-Cola Company in 1941.[6] The Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito-Lay, Inc. merged in 1965, creating PepsiCo, Inc., which was initially headquartered in Manhattan, New York.[7]
According to the 2023 Forbes Global 2000, PepsiCo ranked 82nd and is the world's second-largest food and beverage company, trailing only Nestlé.[8]
