Blake Comeau is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who spent time with several NHL teams. The New York Islanders picked him in the second round, 47th overall, during the 2004 draft. Over his career, he also suited up for the Calgary Flames, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche, and Dallas Stars. He is frequently called a modern NHL journeyman.
Comeau grew up in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, the son of George and Lynn Comeau. He played four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the Kelowna Rockets, who selected him in the second round of the 2001 WHL Bantam Draft. After appearing in three games as a 15-year-old, he joined the Rockets full-time in 2002–03, recording 23 points in 56 games. That season, the Rockets won the President's Cup, and Comeau played in 19 playoff games. The following year, he improved to 33 points, and though the Rockets did not repeat as WHL champions, they hosted the 2004 Memorial Cup and won the national title with a 2–1 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques.
After that triumph, the Islanders selected him 47th overall in the 2004 NHL entry draft. Comeau returned to the Rockets for 2004–05, scoring 24 goals and 47 points, plus 18 points in 24 playoff games as the team won its second President's Cup in three years. At the 2005 Memorial Cup, the Rockets lost all three games. In his final junior season, 2005–06, Comeau put up 74 points in 60 games and earned a spot on the WHL's Western Conference All-Star Team. He then joined Canada's junior team for the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship, leading the squad in scoring with seven points in six games to help Canada win a second straight gold medal. He ended the season by playing seven playoff games for the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Comeau began the 2005–06 season with the Sound Tigers, scoring 43 points in 61 games. He earned a brief recall to the Islanders and made his NHL debut on December 7, 2006, against the Montreal Canadiens. He split the 2006–07 season between New York and Bridgeport, recording 19 points in 31 AHL games and 15 points in 51 NHL games. His first NHL goal came on December 21, 2007, against Pittsburgh's Dany Sabourin in a 4–2 win. In 2008–09, he again split time, scoring 25 points in 53 NHL games.
