Trouble
The piano-led third single from Parachutes that gave Coldplay a second UK top 10 hit.
"Trouble" is a Coldplay song from the band's debut album, Parachutes, issued in 2000. Built on acoustic piano with a very quiet snare underneath, it is a spare, minimal track whose lyrics deal with apology, longing and unrequited love. Released as the album's third single on 23 October 2000, it climbed to number 10 on the UK Singles Chart, the group's second top 10 there after "Yellow". It never charted in the United States, yet music writers judged it close to the success of its predecessor, and Chris Martin later said it kept the band from being a one-hit wonder.

Background
Martin has explained that the song grew out of his own conduct: tension inside the band, and the way he was treating some of its members, led him to write about mistreating someone you love. All four members share the writing credit. The band co-produced it with Ken Nelson, and it took four attempts before they had a take they liked; the first three simply did not work. The final version was captured into Pro Tools with a shaker keeping time. Will Champion on drums and Martin on piano laid down the backing in a small wooden room, then Guy Berryman added bass and Jonny Buckland his guitar. Two microphones were placed on the piano, and Nelson picked the fuller-sounding one. Michael Brauer mixed it in New York, but the first mix had to be redone because the vocal was overcompressed and the piano too bright.
