Last updated
Destro is a Scottish arms manufacturer and leader of the Iron Grenadiers who supplies weapons to Cobra.[1] Christopher Eccleston portrayed Destro in the 2009 film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.[1] Within the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, comic books, and cartoon series, the character known as Destro appears as a fictional figure.[1]
Key facts and history
The mask was originally forced on an ancestor caught selling weapons to both sides of the conflict.[2] Destro first appeared as an action figure in 1983 with a silver vacuum-metalized head.[3] A second version with a gold head was released in 1988 as part of the Iron Grenadiers faction.[4] For many centuries, the Destro clan has been involved in the design and sale of weaponry.[5]
He leads M.A.R.S., a cutting-edge weapons manufacturing firm that ranks among the globe's biggest multinational corporations.[5] A beryllium steel mask is worn by Destro, a practice that began during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.[6] The initial comic book appearance of Destro in the Marvel series occurs in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue #11.[7] At a later point, Destro emerges as the head of a group he founded, called the Iron Grenadiers.[8]
What the cited sources add
The 1992 file card notes that Destro (v3) was released carded as part of the eleventh series and came with a black rifle and disc launcher.[9] The 1988 file card states Destro (version 2) was released exclusively with the Destro's Despoiler hoverjet.[10] In Brazil, Destro was released carded rather than boxed with the Despoiler.[10] The 1988 file card notes Destro's body is completely original with all new body parts.[10]
