The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. They began play in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and joined the National Football League (NFL) in 1950 after the AAFC dissolved. The team was named after its first coach, Paul Brown, and won four AAFC championships before moving to the NFL, where they won three NFL championships between 1950 and 1955. The Browns won their last NFL championship in 1964 and reached the title game the following season, losing to the Green Bay Packers.
