Synopsis

Gong Ming, an imperial scholar official and the sole survivor of his family after a massacre, supports reinstating deposed Empress Xu. While persecuted, he time-travels two thousand years to the present via a mysterious jade pendant. He falls in love with actress Lin Xiangxiang, who plays Empress Xu in a historical drama. Gong Ming insists on returning to the past to save the empress, but learns he cannot return to Xiang Xiang.

Production

This drama was a joint production between Hunan TV and CJ E&M. Jang Young-woo, known for I Need Romance 3, directed it, while Kim Young-gyu, producer of Flower Boys Next Door and Nine: Nine Time Travels, worked alongside the lightning director from My Love From the Star. The Korean team behind Queen and I handled music, editing, and art direction. Unlike many Chinese shows, it was not pre-produced; filming followed a live-shooting format, with the script—including the finale—changed based on viewer feedback. The actors performed without dubbing, using their real voices. Historical elements, such as the conflict between Zhao Feiyan and Empress Xu, were woven into the story.
