Love Between Fairy and Devil

Love Between Fairy and Devil is a Chinese fantasy series adapted from Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s novel of the same name. The drama was directed by Yi Zheng and Qian Jingwu, with Yu Shuxin and Dylan Wang as the main leads. Supporting roles were played by Xu Haiqiao, Guo Xiaoting, and Zhang Linghe. It originally streamed on iQIYI between August 7 and September 22, 2022. An English-language edition of the novel has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment.

The story follows Xiao Lanhua, a lowly orchid fairy who accidentally frees the imprisoned Demon Lord Dongfang Qingcang. In doing so, she unknowingly triggers the “One Heart Curse,” which binds their fates—making them share pain, emotions, and even death. Dongfang Qingcang, known as the Moon Supreme, had been sealed away long ago after the Goddess of War, Chidi Nüzi, sacrificed herself to stop his attack on the gods. A prophecy foretold that only the reborn Goddess Xiyun could defeat him. As it turns out, Xiao Lanhua is that goddess’s reincarnation. While Dongfang Qingcang searches for a way to break the curse, he finds himself protecting Xiao Lanhua and gradually falling in love with her through their trials across the fairy, demon, and human realms.

Yu Shuxin plays Orchid, also known as Xiao Lanhua and Goddess Xiyun, a fairy whose cultivation was damaged when her master accidentally ruined her immortal root with alcohol. Dylan Wang portrays Dongfang Qingcang, the arrogant and cold Moon Supreme whose primordial spirit was secretly hidden in Haotian Tower. Among the supporting cast, Xu Haiqiao appears as Rong Hao, a seemingly carefree apprentice who secretly manipulates others. Guo Xiaoting plays Chidi Nüzi, also called Xie Wanqing, the former God of War and Rong Hao’s teacher. Zhang Linghe takes on the role of Changheng, the current God of War who loves Xiao Lanhua. Other characters include Danyin (played by Wang Yueyi), a highborn fairy in love with Changheng; Shangque (Charles Lin), Dongfang Qingcang’s loyal assistant who can shift between human and dragon forms; and Xunfeng (Zhang Chenxiao), the Moon Supreme’s younger brother. The cast also features Zhao Bin as Elder Moon Lord, Zhang Bozhi as the King of Nanyou, Li Xizi as the King of Beiyou, Hong Xiao as Jieli (Xiao Lanhua’s best friend and a spy), and Cheng Zi as Dieyi, Rong Hao’s loyal aide.
