Cubs–White Sox rivalry
The Crosstown Classic: North Side against South Side since 1906.
The Cubs–White Sox rivalry, also called the Crosstown Classic, the Windy City Showdown or the City Series, is the geographical Major League Baseball rivalry between the Chicago Cubs of the National League Central, who play at Wrigley Field on the North Side, and the Chicago White Sox of the American League Central, who play at Rate Field on the South Side. Fans from the North Shore and the northern suburbs tend to support the Cubs, fans from the south side of the city the White Sox. The two clubs met in the 1906 World Series, which the heavily favored 116-win Cubs lost in six games to the pitching-strong 'Hitless Wonders', and from 1903 to 1942 they played a best-of-seven postseason City Series in the years neither won the pennant; regular meetings only resumed with interleague play in 1997.
