2014 WNBA season
The 18th WNBA season, with a new collective bargaining agreement.
The 2014 campaign marked the 18th season for the WNBA. The schedule stretched from May into September to make room for the 2014 Women's World Championship. A new collective bargaining agreement was finalized on February 17, 2014, after the previous one expired during the 2013 Finals, which delayed the usual timing of the draft and schedule release. The regular season schedule was announced on February 6, running from May 16 to August 17.
The All-Star Game was set for July 19 in Phoenix, Arizona, at 3:00 PM EDT. In the draft lottery on December 12, 2013, the Connecticut Sun, coming off a league-worst 10-24 record, won the top pick. At the draft on April 14, they selected Chiney Ogwumike from Stanford University first overall. The New York Liberty returned to a renovated Madison Square Garden after three seasons playing at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Indiana Fever head coach Lin Dunn announced her retirement on May 8, effective at season's end. Television coverage came from ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, and NBA TV. The Washington Mystics made history in May 2014 by launching Kiswe Mobile's Mystics Live, becoming the first U.S. professional sports team to stream live games inside the venue through a mobile app. The season concluded with the playoffs, and individual and team awards were given out.
