The song was produced by Larry Page, who commissioned Daniel Boone and lyricist David Balfe to write it, and released on Page's Penny Farthing label. The singers included Peter Osgood, Alan Hudson, Ron Harris, John Hollins, Charlie Cooke, David Webb and Peter Houseman. The original sold a quarter of a million copies, and versions of the song reached a million sales worldwide.
