Appearances
In Guy Ritchie's 2008 film Rocknrolla, the track is performed by two characters: the older Johnny Quid, played by Toby Kebbell, in his shabby apartment, and the younger John Cole alongside his abusive stepfather, London crime boss Lenny Cole. Future Stone Roses members Ian Brown and Pete Garner were present for the single's studio recording. Brown recalled that after hearing a rumor the Clash were recording in Manchester, he and Garner were walking through the city center when they heard Topper Headon drumming at Pluto Studios; Headon then came out and invited them inside. John Robb's book Stone Roses and the Resurrection of British Pop contains the full story.
