The season's production was split between two directors: Kenji Kodama handled episodes up to 118, and Yasuichiro Yamamoto took over from episode 119. The series title was changed from Detective Conan to Case Closed for English releases due to legal issues. The season introduced the character Ai Haibara, known as Vi Graythorn in the English adaptation.

The episodes used five pieces of theme music: two opening themes and three closing themes. The first Japanese opening was "Unmei no Roulette Mawashite" by Zard until episode 123, followed by "Truth (A Great Detective of Love)" by Two-Mix. The closing themes were "Negai Goto Hitotsu Dake" by Miho Komatsu until episode 108, "Kōri no ue ni Tatsu yō ni" by Miho Komatsu from episode 109 to 131, and "Still for Your Love" by Rumania Montevideo for the rest of the season.

The English adaptation did not use "Spinning the Roulette of Destiny" as an opening theme; instead, it used a different instrumental theme or the original Japanese opening with English credits. The English ending themes were not the Japanese songs; they were replaced with different instrumental music or the opening theme.

Rachel Moore: The Unshakable Heart

Conceived by Aoyama as the ideal woman a young detective might long for, Rachel Moore embodies strength across nearly every dimension. She is a karate team captain and regional champion, a responsible student, a talented cook and seamstress, and a woman whose compassion extends even to potential criminals. Aoyama deliberately chose karate over kendo or judo because he felt it looked cooler on the page, and he derived her Japanese name from Maurice Leblanc, the creator of Arsène Lupin. Her relationship with Jimmy is the emotional spine of the series: she has known him since elementary school, worries constantly about his safety, and suspects Conan Edogawa is secretly her friend, yet he repeatedly tricks her into doubting her own instincts. Her moral compass is firm—she believes even the worst offenders deserve a fair trial rather than execution. In one pivotal moment, her deep kindness is what motivates Vermouth to keep Jimmy's identity hidden from the Black Organization. The Junior Detective League looks up to her as a role model, and she fills her days caring for Conan and her father while quietly hoping her separated parents will one day reconcile.

Richard Moore and the Sleeping Detective Gimmick

Richard Moore, Rachel's father, is a private detective whose public reputation rests almost entirely on a ruse: Conan regularly sedates him and then mimics his voice to deliver brilliant deductions, making Richard appear as a genius who solves cases while dozing. The public dubs him the Sleeping Moore. Beneath the spectacle, Richard and Conan share a genuine rivalry, and Richard's egocentric streak leads him to claim credit for cases he and Conan cracked together. Before his private practice, he served as a police officer under Inspector Meguire, and his martial-arts background in judo still surfaces in tense moments. His marriage to Eva Kaden, a successful lawyer and childhood friend, has been fractured for over a decade by constant arguments, yet he admits he still loves her and has made attempts at reconciliation. Despite his well-known vices—drinking, gambling, and flirting with young women—Richard possesses a core of honor and an unwavering devotion to his daughter. Aoyama admitted he barely invested in Richard's visual design, initially sketching a slimmer echo of Captain Nakamori from Magic Kaito before adding a pompadour and reshaping the mustache to differentiate the two characters.

A Patchwork of English-Language Releases

The English-language landscape for Case Closed is notably fragmented. Viz Media holds the manga license and has Americanized a large number of character names in its translation. The anime's first English dub was handled by Funimation, which also applied its own set of localized names and spellings—sometimes diverging from Viz's choices for the very same characters. That dub later passed to the Macias Group, whose version streams on Tubi. More recently, Studio Nano produced a curated dub of select episodes now available on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Meanwhile, a separate line of English releases—the Singapore manga from Shogakukan Asia, the Tubi anime stream, the Crunchyroll and Netflix dub, and home-video editions dubbed by Bang Zoom!
