Black Ops Campaign

In 2035, trust no one when memories are weaponized and ghosts walk among the living.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 transports players to the year 2035, marking a decade after David Mason neutralized Raul Menendez. In this future setting, a doctored video resurfaces claiming Menendez is alive and planning new attacks, prompting tech giant 'the Guild' to vow defense against the threat. Skeptical of their motives, Colonel Troy Marshall deploys his elite JSOC unit, Specter One, to the Mediterranean city-state of Avalon. Led by David Mason, the team includes Mike Harper, Eric Samuels, and Leilani "50/50" Tupuola. Their mission is to investigate the apparent return of the terrorist, but they quickly uncover a conspiracy involving hallucinogenic toxins and deepfake technology that blurs the line between reality and nightmare.

Lore & Background

The core of Black Ops 7's narrative revolves around Specter One's infiltration of Avalon, where they are ambushed in a laboratory and exposed to "the Cradle," a hallucinogenic toxin. This substance forces the team into vivid shared visions rooted in their past traumas. David Mason confronts an apparition of Raul Menendez in a vision of Nicaragua and later battles a plant-monster hallucination of his late mentor, Frank Woods, who reveals his guilt over accidentally killing David's father, Alex Mason. The psychological toll is compounded by the revelation that the Guild CEO, Emma Kagan, fabricated the Menendez video using deepfakes to justify her own power grab. The team also encounters spectral versions of their allies and enemies, including a cruel warden version of Alex Mason in Vorkuta, forcing David to reconcile with his family's legacy while fighting for survival.

Reader's Guide

Players experience the campaign either solo or in co-op with up to four friends as Specter One through 11 missions set in Avalon and its surroundings. The narrative is driven by investigating the "Cradle" toxin, which triggers hallucinations that serve as gameplay segments; players must survive these visions to progress. Key objectives include infiltrating labs, capturing server farms, confronting Dr. Falkner at the Sanctum, and destroying the underwater bioreactor.

The campaign introduces new mechanics where players can equip major and minor abilities for their characters. A crucial turning point involves identifying Razor as a double agent during a decryption attempt. Upon completing all 11 missions, players unlock "Endgame," an objective-based mode for up to 32 players in Avalon with a strict time limit. Here, custom loadouts are allowed, but death results in losing gear, though a skill tree can grant retained buffs between successful exfiltrations.
