The Ultranationalist leader who lost an arm to Price but returned to ignite a global war with nuclear weapons.
Imran Zakhaev is the primary antagonist and leader of the Russian Ultranationalists in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, he profited from nuclear proliferation to build a movement seeking to restore Russia's Soviet-era influence. By the game's timeline in 2011, a civil war has erupted between his forces and the Russian government. Lore & Background
Zakhaev's rise began after the Chernobyl disaster and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, where he leveraged wealth from nuclear proliferation to fuel his political agenda. His first major appearance in history occurred in 1996 when Price and MacMillan ambushed him in Pripyat. The assassination attempt failed to kill him but cost Zakhaev his left arm. Years later, in 2011, he leads the Ultranationalists during a Russian civil war while simultaneously supporting Khaled Al-Asad's coup in the Middle East. After Al-Asad is captured and executed by Price, Zakhaev retaliates directly. He seizes control of a nuclear launch facility in the Altai Mountains and launches intercontinental ballistic missiles toward the United States, intending to trigger World War III.
