Akutagawa's Coat

A black coat that transforms into a beast capable of burning and tearing space apart.

Rashōmon is the physical manifestation of Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's ability, appearing as a black coat that transforms into a beast capable of tearing anything apart. This entity serves as his primary weapon within the Port Mafia, where he acts as a 20-year-old member. The coat is not merely clothing but a destructive force that can even tear space itself. It reflects Akutagawa's complex nature: while he is often selfish and bossy toward others like Atsushi Nakajima, this power also protects his younger sister, Gin, who works in the same organization but lacks an ability.

Quick Facts

Wielder: Ryunosuke Akutagawa
Affiliation: Port Mafia
Ability name: Rashomon

Lore & Background

Rashōmon consists of a black coat that acts as a fire elemental-like beast. Its destructive capability is absolute; it can burn or tear anything apart, extending its reach to the point of ripping through space itself. This power is tied directly to Akutagawa's physical state. Growing up in the slums and suffering from a lung disease, he is often sickly with a persistent cough, yet this frailty contrasts sharply with the immense violence his ability can unleash. The coat has been used as a tool of bullying against Dazai's new subordinate, Atsushi, highlighting Akutagawa's resentment stemming from Dazai abandoning him after their time together in the Port Mafia.

Reader's Guide

To utilize Rashōmon, one must possess Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's specific ability. The coat transforms into a beast that can burn and tear objects apart. Users should note that the power can even affect space itself. Control requires focus; while Akutagawa is often disregarding of orders, his skill with the coat remains a key asset to the Port Mafia. The ability is unique to him as a former apprentice of Osamu Dazai, distinguishing him from other members like Gin who have no ability. Be aware that the user's lung disease and persistent cough may limit stamina during prolonged engagements.
