Bernard-Docker was born in Canmore, Alberta, and spent summers in Pictou County visiting grandparents. He played peewee AA in Cochrane and bantam AAA in Airdrie before attending the Edge School for Athletes. He was selected for the 2010 Brick Invitational Super Novice Tournament. After being drafted by the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL Bantam Draft, he chose the AJHL route to preserve NCAA eligibility, joining the Okotoks Oilers. He committed to the University of North Dakota and played three collegiate seasons, majoring in kinesiology and earning academic honors. He signed with Ottawa in 2021 and made his NHL debut that April. He scored his first NHL goal on December 7, 2023, against the Toronto Maple Leafs. On March 7, 2025, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres along with Josh Norris for Dylan Cozens, Dennis Gilbert, and a 2026 second-round pick. He made his Sabres debut on March 22 against the Minnesota Wild, recorded his first points with Buffalo in his second game, and scored his first goal as a Sabre in his third game, back in Ottawa, on March 25. He played 15 games for Buffalo, mainly alongside Owen Power, scoring one goal and four points.
