Arnold Bernstein revolutionized car transport by shipping cars without wooden crates, reducing freight rates. During the Great Depression, he converted his cargo ships to passenger ships with a single tourist class. He was one of the first Jewish 'merchant princes' and a victim of Nazi appropriation policies.
