Dune Drifter

Dune Drifter is a British science fiction film from 2020, written and directed by Marc Price and produced by Michelle Parkyn. The cast includes Phoebe Sparrow, Daisy Aitkens, Simon Dwyer Thomas, Alastair Kirton, Richard Corgan, and Michael Geary. The story follows Adler, a gunner in Dune Squadron, who crash-lands on the planet Erebus and must contend with both the deadly environment and a Drekk warrior.

In the film, humanity is based at Terra Prime and at war with the alien Drekk, who have destroyed cities such as New York, Istanbul, and Quebec City. Adler serves as Grey 6 gunner, flying with pilot Yaren as part of Dune Squadron, a seven-ship unit. After receiving a briefing from Colonel Danforth aboard the starship Valiant, the squadron heads to the planet Erebus, expecting Terra Prime forces to have defeated the Drekk there. En route, Adler and Yaren temporarily fix a plasma injector coil issue. Upon exiting hyperspace, they find the Valiant under heavy attack. The squadron engages, but their plasma blasts barely affect enemy shields. They destroy one Drekk ship, but all other squadron members are killed. Adler and Yaren’s damaged ship crash-lands on Erebus.

Adler is knocked unconscious; Yaren is severely injured. Erebus has a corrosive, toxic atmosphere. Adler, regaining consciousness, moves Yaren to an emergency life raft with breathable air, using her spacesuit for protection. She returns to the ship to call for help but needs a code for the communications system. Yaren provides a code, but it fails. Adler guesses the code, only to find they are out of range of the Terra Prime fleet. That night, she sees a Drekk ship crash-land. The next day, Yaren dies from her injuries. Later, a creature attacks and deflates the life raft. Adler reaches her ship and kills the creature with the plasma cannon. She then picks up a transmission from the Valiant ordering a retreat, leaving her stranded.

With life-support running low, Adler decides to salvage the plasma injector coil from the crashed Drekk ship to repair her own. Approaching the ship, she encounters a Drekk warrior in a plasma-resistant suit, making her pistol useless. After injecting an adrenaline shot, she kills the Drekk with a knife. She then attacks two Drekk guards, grabs their rifle, and kills one, nearly destroying the ship. She extracts the coil and tries to leave, but the last warrior shoots at
