Neverland (miniseries)
A prequel to the Peter Pan story, set in 1906 London.
Neverland is a two-part fantasy miniseries from 2011. It first aired on Syfy in the United States on December 4 and 5, then on Sky Movies in the United Kingdom on December 9, and finally on Zee Cinema in India on December 16. Nick Willing wrote and directed the project, which acts as a prequel to the classic Peter Pan tale.
In 1906 London, a thief named James "Jimmy" Hook puts together a group of young street thieves to steal a glowing orb from an antique shop. During the heist, Hook and the boys vanish, leaving only Peter Pan, who was the lookout. Thinking the orb was a bomb that killed his friends, Peter takes it home. A man later comes looking for Hook, and Peter follows him, hoping to learn why Hook was hired. He is caught and brought to Dr. Richard Fludd, who reveals that Hook and the boys were transported to another world, not killed. Peter then strikes the orb, determined to find his friends.
Hook and the boys arrive in a strange land and are captured by pirates led by Captain Elizabeth Bonny. She shows Hook magical dust from tree spirits that grants flight, but she has only a small amount and wants Hook’s help to get more. Peter lands in a forest and reunites with Fox, who escaped capture. They befriend a native tribe and meet the chief’s daughter, Aaya, learning that the natives protect the tree spirits from the pirates. Peter and Fox rescue their friends, but Fox is killed in the fight.
Back at the native village, an elder shows Peter a painting from a shared dream. Aaya recognizes the location, and Peter goes there, hoping to find a way home. They meet Dr. Fludd, who explains he discovered a planet where time stands still and created the orb as a transport device. As they plan to return Peter and the boys to London, pirates attack, killing Fludd, taking the orb, and stabbing Peter. Tinker Bell brings Peter to be healed by the tree spirits in a magical mineral pool.
Hook convinces Peter to show him the mountain passage and the pool, then betrays him, revealing the pirates followed. Bonny immerses herself in the mineral dust, but because only the innocent can use it, she burns to death, and Hook becomes captain. In anger, Hook tells Peter he was once engaged to Peter’s mother and killed Peter’s father. The tree spirits, angry that Peter led Hook to them, erase Peter’s memory. Tinker Bell defends him and is cast out.
