He scored his first goal on 28 December 2002 in a 4–1 win at Stockport County, and later netted in the 2003 Football League Trophy final victory over Carlisle United. In November 2003, he moved to Premier League side Fulham for £55,000. After a loan spell at Torquay United under his father, he made his Fulham debut in a League Cup match in September 2004, where he was sent off.

His league debut came in December 2004 against Manchester United, earning Man of the Match honours. He scored his only Fulham goal in a League Cup tie in September 2005. In August 2007, Rosenior joined Reading on a three-year contract, debuting against Sunderland and scoring his first goal for the club in a 7–4 defeat to Portsmouth. He was loaned to Ipswich Town in September 2009 for the remainder of the season, scoring once in 31 appearances.

International career

Rosenior, who is of Sierra Leonean descent through his father, represented England at under-21 level, debuting in March 2005 against Germany. He also played for the under-20 side at the 2005 Toulon Tournament, scoring one goal in three matches. His under-21 caps totalled seven, with his final appearance coming as a substitute in the 2007 European Under-21 Championship semi-final against the Netherlands, where he scored in a 13–12 penalty shootout loss.

Coaching career

After retiring as a player, Rosenior became Brighton's under-23 assistant coach and a pundit. In July 2019, he joined Derby County as a specialist first team coach, later becoming assistant manager under Wayne Rooney. Following Rooney's resignation in June 2022, Rosenior served as interim manager until September 2022. He was appointed head coach of Hull City in November 2022 on a two-and-a-half-year deal, signing a new contract in December 2023.

Despite a seventh-place finish in the Championship, he was dismissed in May 2024 due to a difference in football philosophy with the owner. In July 2024, he became head coach of Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, debuting with an all-under-23 outfield starting XI. He extended his contract in April 2025 and finished his first season in seventh place, qualifying for the UEFA Conference League. In January 2026, Rosenior was appointed Chelsea head coach on a five-and-a-half-year deal, but was dismissed in April 2026 after five consecutive Premier League losses.

Personal life

Rosenior is married to Erika Quinones and has four children. He is the son of former player and manager Leroy Rosenior. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in football tactics, reportedly reading the FA Coaching Book of Soccer Tactics and Skills at age nine and spending Friday evenings with his father analysing match lineups and set pieces.
