History

At its launch in February 1989, Sunrise aired from 5:00 am to 9:30 am. In 1991, it became one of only two slots across Sky's 20-year history to have its own individual graphics, the other being Live at Five; these graphics were quickly withdrawn after being deemed too gaudy by viewers and staff. Thereafter, Sunrise used the channel's graphics, though it occasionally employed slight variations, such as a unique title sequence in 1997 and an individual variation of the Sky News globe in 2005. When Sky News relaunched on 24 October 2005, Eamonn Holmes and Lorna Dunkley became the regular weekday presenters, with Steve Gaisford and Emma Crosby fronting weekends; Jacquie Beltrao provided sports updates on weekdays. The broadcast time shifted to 6:00–9:00 am. In January 2007, Dunkley moved to weekend coverage, and Charlotte Hawkins joined Holmes. Hawkins left in March 2014 for Good Morning Britain, replaced by Isabel Webster. Weekend editions were previously presented by Mark Longhurst and Gillian Joseph; in 2012, Stephen Dixon replaced Longhurst on Friday-to-Sunday programmes. In August 2017, a rebrand introduced a new logo, and weekday editions became mostly single-headed, with Mee presenting most of the slot and Samuels reading headlines; weekend editions remained double-headed. Christmas editions since 1989 have generally been presented by Kay Burley.
