Schmidt was a fierce two-way center and one of the most respected leaders in Bruins history. He captained the team to Stanley Cup victories in 1939 and 1941, and won the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 1951. Known for his relentless work ethic and clean play, he was a key member of the legendary 'Kraut Line' alongside Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer. After his playing career, Schmidt served as Bruins head coach and later as general manager, helping build the championship teams of the early 1970s.

Bucyk played junior hockey for the Edmonton Oil Kings before signing with the Detroit Red Wings in 1955. He was traded to the Boston Bruins in 1958 and became the top left wing on the 'Uke Line' with Vic Stasiuk and Bronco Horvath. He led the Bruins in scoring multiple times during the 1960s and remained with the team through his retirement. Following his playing career, Bucyk has served as a commentator, director, and currently works as an ambassador for the Bruins.
