Geekie grew up in Manitoba and played minor hockey with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba U-18 'AAA' Hockey League, where he led the team in scoring and earned league all-star honors. He joined the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League in 2013 and developed into a top scorer, leading the Americans in points during the 2016–17 season and being named to the WHL Western Conference Second All-Star Team. After being drafted by the Hurricanes, he turned professional with their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, helping them win the Calder Cup in 2019 and setting a postseason point streak record.

Geekie made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes in 2020, scoring two goals and an assist in his first game. He was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 expansion draft and played two seasons there, gradually increasing his production. In 2023, he signed with the Boston Bruins as an unrestricted free agent after the Kraken did not extend a qualifying offer. With Boston, he recorded his first NHL hat-trick on February 29, 2024, and surpassed his career highs, reaching 39 points in his first season and 57 in his second. He became a regular on the Bruins' top line and hit the 30-goal mark for the first time on April 8, 2025.

Internationally, Geekie represented Team Canada at the 2022 IIHF World Championship, winning a silver medal.
