German National Championships (1956, 1957)

Two titles in a row and the three Alfredos.

Playing in the Oberliga West, Borussia Dortmund won their first national championship in 1956 by beating Karlsruher SC 4-2 in the final. A year later they beat Hamburger SV 4-1 to retain it.

Alfred Preissler, Alfred Kelbassa and Alfred Niepieklo, the three Alfredos, became club legends after the two titles. Dortmund won a third national championship in 1963, the last one before the Bundesliga began.
