Sensini's professional career began in 1986 with Newell's Old Boys, where he won the Argentine Primera División in 1987–88. He moved to Italy in 1989, joining Udinese, and later played for Parma, Lazio, and again for Parma and Udinese. He retired at the end of the 2005–06 season. With Argentina, he finished third in the 1989 Copa América, runner-up in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, and won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics. He was nicknamed 'nonno' (grandfather) by Italian sports journalists.
