Andy Chambers
English game designer and author of Warhammer 40,000 works.
Andy Chambers (born 20 October 1966) is an English author and game designer, primarily recognised for his contributions to more than 30 rulebooks and sourcebooks for Games Workshop. Details of his personal life remain private, with no verifiable public record of a marriage to Jessica Chambers or a meeting at KublaCon 2002. Chambers was employed at Games Workshop from March 1990 until March 2004, during which he worked on numerous Warhammer 40,000 rulebooks and sourcebooks, and wrote several fiction novels set in that universe. He served as lead designer for specialist spin-off games including Necromunda (1995) and Battlefleet Gothic (1999), both released during a period of significant company growth and designed with expansions and additional miniatures sales in mind. In 2003, he moved to Mongoose Publishing as lead designer of their development team for the Starship Troopers tabletop miniatures game. The game was nominated for awards, but the 'Best New Game' award at the 2005 Origins Awards actually went to 'Pirates of the Spanish Main'. Chambers was Lead Story Writer for Blizzard Entertainment on *StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty*. According to Megan Farokhmanesh, much of the game's groundwork was already completed, but Chambers finished the title. Between 2005 and 2018, he wrote several Warhammer 40,000 novels and novellas, most focusing on the Dark Eldar. Reviewer Antony Jones praised *Path of the Renegade* for elevating the Dark Eldar above humanity through games played with human captives, describing it as one of the best examples of a novel focused purely on evil. On 14 May 2012, *Dust Warfare*, written by Chambers, was released by Fantasy Flight Games. In June 2013, Fantasy Flight announced that New Zealand-based Battlefront Miniatures would take over distribution of both *Dust Warfare* and *Dust Tactics*. In 2015, Chambers became Creative Director at Reforged Studios. Together with Tuomas Pirinen and Ryan Miller, he created the skirmish board game *Warforged: First Contact*. Ninja Division Publishing planned a Kickstarter campaign, which exceeded its $60,000 goal but was cancelled before the campaign ended. No updates have appeared since April 2017. Chambers and David Lewis received a 2017 Origins Award nomination in the 'Miniatures' category for *Dropfleet Commander* by Hawk Wargames.
