Blackpink: The Movie (stylized as BLɅϽKPIИK THE MOVIE or in all caps) is a 2021 South Korean documentary directed by Oh Yoon-dong and Jung Su-yee, centered on the K-pop girl group Blackpink. It premiered in South Korea and internationally on August 4, 2021.
The film combines interviews with the four members—Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—alongside concert footage from The Show and the In Your Area World Tour. It is divided into segments: "The Room of Memories" covers the group’s five years since their debut, "Beauty" offers individual member close-ups, and "Exclusive Interviews" includes messages for fans.
Blackpink debuted on August 8, 2016, with the single album *Square One* and later became one of the most successful acts in K-pop. On June 16, 2021, YG Entertainment announced the film as part of the group’s fifth debut anniversary project, the "4 + 1 Project." The release date of August 4 was confirmed on June 23, with tickets going on sale June 30.
The movie debuted in over 100 countries and 3,000 theaters worldwide. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, its release was postponed to late August in parts of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The global theater count was set to expand from 3,000 to 4,200 with those later openings.
Within five days, the film attracted nearly 500,000 viewers globally, with the highest numbers in Mexico, the United States, Turkey, Brazil, and Japan. It earned over US$4.8 million worldwide in two weeks, becoming the highest-grossing event cinema release of 2021. In South Korea, it sold 5,420 tickets and grossed $62,483 from August 6 to 8, ranking ninth at the weekend box office. From August 4 to 9, it recorded 11,761 total admissions and $134,412 in earnings.
