Rosalind Lutece
A physicist from another dimension who helps shape the fate of Columbia.
Rosalind Lutece is one half of the enigmatic Lutece twins, appearing in the 2013 video game BioShock Infinite as a mysterious figure who guides protagonist Booker DeWitt. Voiced by Jennifer Hale and visually designed by concept artist Claire Hummel, she serves as a driver for the game's events, often materializing under strange circumstances to offer cryptic advice or compel trivial choices. Alongside her counterpart Robert, Rosalind is revealed to be a parallel universe version of the same individual rather than a family member. Their unique dynamic and role in illustrating themes like "constants and variables" have made them among the most memorable aspects of the game, receiving generally positive reception from critics and fans alike.

Lore & Background
Rosalind Lutece is a physicist in the main timeline of BioShock Infinite who developed the technology enabling the floating city of Columbia. She first encountered Robert Lutece, her male counterpart from another universe whom she calls "her brother," during one of her experiments. Together, they discovered a machine at Rosalind's boarded-up residence capable of producing "tears"—fissures in dimensional time and space leading to alternate universes.
Initially working for Father Zachary Hale Comstock, the leader of Columbia, they devised a plan to secure a child successor for the sterile leader. However, upon realizing Comstock intended to use their charge, Elizabeth, to commit genocide by raining fire on "Sodom below," they turned against him. In retaliation, Comstock sabotaged their machine, causing it to malfunction. The Luteces survived but were cast into a quantum state of flux, allowing them to travel freely between universes while remaining unaffected by phenomena within any single one.
Reader's Guide
Players encounter Rosalind early in BioShock Infinite when she and Robert take Booker on a boat to a lighthouse, facilitating travel to Columbia. Throughout the game, they appear randomly, often asking Booker to make seemingly trivial choices, such as flipping a coin that has landed heads 122 times out of 122 flips—a fact evidenced by tally marks on the gentleman Lutece's sandwich board. Collectible voxophones containing Rosalind's personal messages allow players to piece together their involvement in Columbia's mysteries.
In Burial at Sea, their influence extends to Rapture, where they manipulate events across different realities. Their design reflects a contemporary elegance distinct from the rest of the cast; Rosalind wears a dress with a "Gibson Girl" hairstyle, while Robert embodies the "Arrow Collar Man" archetype. Both characters were voiced by Jennifer Hale and Oliver Vaquer, who recorded their dialogue simultaneously to capture the twins' tendency to finish each other's thoughts.
