Background
Wilson co-wrote all sixteen tracks on the album except for a cover of "What's Up?", originally recorded by 4 Non Blondes, which she had been performing during her live shows. The album was announced on August 16, 2022, alongside the promotional single "Watermelon Moonshine". In an interview with Taste Of Country, Wilson explained that the title Bell Bottom Country refers to "the flare and what makes someone unique" and that she has embraced her own uniqueness. Regarding the short time between her debut and sophomore major label albums, she said she had "lived quite a bit of life" and had more to say. The song "Those Boots (Deddy's Song)" is a tribute to her father, who suffered a medical emergency that caused her to cancel several live shows. The second promotional single, "Live Off", was released on September 23, 2022, after an acoustic performance of the track was posted to her Instagram. Wilson described the song as being about the things that make her world go round, including her hometown, dog, family, friends, and music. After making her acting debut on Yellowstone in November 2022, she released two additional songs—"Smell Like Smoke" and "New Friends"—which were added to streaming and digital versions of the album. "Watermelon Moonshine" and "Wildflowers and Wild Horses" were released as the second and third singles, respectively.
