In 1831, he became the first chemistry professor at the newly founded King's College London, and in 1835 he took a similar role at the East India Company's Military Seminary in Addiscombe, Surrey. He is most famous for inventing the Daniell cell, a battery component that outperformed earlier voltaic cells.
