Lore & Background

Based primarily on stories by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez from the 1980s, the series centers on five main members situated in Titans Tower, a large T-shaped building on an island offshore from Jump City. Robin acts as the intelligent leader; Starfire is a quirky alien princess from Tamaran; Cyborg possesses extraordinary strength and technological prowess; Raven draws upon dark energy from her parallel world of Azarath; and Beast Boy serves as a good-natured joker capable of transforming into various animals. The narrative arc evolves significantly across seasons: Season 1 introduces the mysterious Slade, who seeks to turn Robin into his apprentice. Season 2 adapts "The Judas Contract," featuring Terra, who joins the team while secretly plotting against them with Slade. Season 3 depicts Cyborg's conflict with H.I.V.E. and Brother Blood, leading to the formation of Titans East with Aqualad, Speedy, Bumblebee, and Más y Menos. In Season 4, Raven becomes central as her demon father Trigon seeks to enslave Earth. The fifth season sees the team uniting with other heroes to combat the Brotherhood of Evil.

Reader's Guide

Each season focuses on a distinct story arc centered on a specific Titan, though Starfire is the only original member without a dedicated season. The team deals with all manner of criminal activity and threats while managing their friendships and limitations. During its run, the series received three Annie Award nominations and one Motion Picture Sound Editors Award. A 15-minute episode titled "The Lost Episode" was released online in January 2005 as part of a Post Consumer Brands campaign. The show's soundtrack features both English and Japanese versions of the title theme by Puffy AmiYumi, with the version used varying by region and tone: English for serious stories and Japanese for comedic ones. In 2013, the franchise spawned Teen Titans Go!, which later received theatrical films including Teen Titans Go! To the Movies (July 27, 2018) and the crossover Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans in 2019.
