Egghead

Egg-themed criminal who deduced Batman's secret identity.

Vincent Price portrayed Edgar Heed, alias Egghead, on the 1960s Batman show. This villain, with a pale bald head and a white-and-yellow suit, fancied himself the smartest criminal alive. Background

Egghead was one of several characters created specifically for the TV series, alongside King Tut, Shame, the Siren, Chandell, and the Bookworm. He later appeared in Batman comic books and other media. Earlier minor characters named Egghead (or Egg-Head) appeared in Detective Comics #63 and Batman #22, but these were bald secondary gangsters unrelated to the TV series character. Marvel Comics also introduced an Egghead in Tales to Astonish #38.

Fictional character biography

Introduced in the second-season episodes "An Egg Grows in Gotham" and "The Yegg Foes in Gotham," Egghead allied with Chief Screaming Chicken of the Mohican tribe to take over Gotham City, only to be foiled by Batman and Robin. In the third season, he partnered with Olga, Queen of the Cossacks, attempting to hatch a Neosaurus egg and steal the Sword of Bulbul and the Egg of Ogg, again thwarted by Batman. In "The Entrancing Dr. Cassandra," Cassandra Spellcraft and Cabala freed Egghead from prison to help them control Gotham, promising him control of the city's poultry farms. His first comic appearance was an unnamed cameo in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #3-4, where he was freed from Arkham Asylum by Jeremiah Arkham. His first named appearance was in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #16 (2010), which gave him the name Edgar Heed. Professor Egghead also appears in Gotham Academy #14.

In other media

Egghead has made non-speaking cameo appearances in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, The Lego Batman Movie, and Batman vs. Two-Face. A portrait appears in the Harley Quinn episode "Catwoman." He appears in the Batwheels episode "A T-Rexcellent Adventure" voiced by Maurice LaMarche, and in the Teen Titans Go! episode "O.S.H.A." voiced by David Kaye. He was considered for the unproduced film Batman Unchained. He appears as a non-player character in Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and has a minor role in Holy Musical B@man!. The Batman: The Brave and the Bold incarnation appears in issue #16 of that series, and he appears in Batman '66 #3 as an Arkham inmate, later revealed as Universo's ancestor. He also appears in the DC-Spotify podcast The Riddler: Secrets of the Dark.
