Fictional character biography

Alysia is introduced when Barbara Gordon moves out of her father's home and answers a roommate posting on "Greg's List". Of Singaporean descent, Alysia describes herself as an activist; she paints during the day and works as a bartender at night, with an ambition to become a professional chef. She is warmly receptive of Barbara and does not press her about her secretive behavior, saying everyone has secrets. Alysia later meets Barbara's psychopathic brother, James, and begins dating him; he gives her a pet cat named Alaska, which resembles a cat Barbara's family once owned. When Alysia returns home to find Barbara standing over unconscious members of the Joker's gang, Barbara apologizes and tells her to report a break-in and that she will never see her again. Instead, Alysia calls James, who takes her to a church where the Joker is forcing Batgirl to marry him; she witnesses the action and learns how insane James is. Afterward, Barbara shares much of her personal background with Alysia, and Alysia finally tells Barbara she is transgender; Barbara responds with love and acceptance. Alysia later joins an environmental activist group, meets Jo, and the two fall in love. Barbara moves out to keep Alysia from worrying, but they remain close, and Alysia invites Barbara as her maid of honor to her wedding with Jo.
