Darío Brizuela Arrieta, born 8 November 1994, is a Spanish professional basketball guard for FC Barcelona in the Liga ACB and the EuroLeague, and he also suits up for the Spain national team. His career started in the youth ranks of his hometown club, Easo Basket, before he moved to Estudiantes in 2011. After working through the junior team and logging 13 games with the reserve squad in Liga EBA, he broke into the top flight and eventually became a key scorer in Spanish basketball, known for a 33-point explosion in the 2021 Copa del Rey that was the highest by a Spanish player in that competition since 1991.
Professional career
Brizuela made his Liga ACB debut in round 32 of the 2012–13 season, playing for a club that lost 93–82 to Real Madrid. In August 2014, he was loaned to Peñas Huesca of the LEB Oro, returning to Estudiantes after the 2014–15 season. He signed a one-season contract extension with Estudiantes in August 2019. On December 4, 2019, he signed for Unicaja Málaga of the Liga ACB and EuroCup, agreeing to a four-season contract with the Andalusian team.
During the 2021 Copa del Rey, he recorded the highest-scoring game for a Spanish player in that competition since 1991, with 33 points. The 2022–23 season was his most successful with Unicaja, as he won the 2023 Copa del Rey and was named to the All-Champions League First Team. In April 2023, he extended his contract with Unicaja until 2026. On 13 July 2023, he signed a three-year deal with FC Barcelona, which reportedly paid a contract buyout of 1.2 million Euros.
In March 2025, he scored a personal-high 27 points in an away EuroLeague win against Olimpia Milano. After an increasingly important role in his second season with Barcelona, he signed a contract extension on July 17, 2025, linking him to the club until 2028. In August 2025, he was selected as the best Spanish player of the 2024–25 season by the Spanish Basketball Federation. On January 21, 2026, he scored 25 points and the game-deciding shot in a EuroLeague home win against Dubai Basketball.
