National team career

Stefan Birčević helped Serbia’s university squad take gold at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen. He later earned a silver medal as part of the senior national team at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Serbia fell to the United States 96-66 in the gold-medal game, giving Birčević another silver.

He added a third silver at EuroBasket 2017, where Slovenia beat Serbia in the final. Heading into the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Serbia was the tournament favorite but lost to Argentina in the quarterfinals, eventually finishing fifth. Across six games in that competition, Birčević put up averages of 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds.
