Did You Know?
- MAORA is a non-profit organization.
- Club officers are elected annually by the membership.
- There is a movement within MAORA to start a class for Side by Side (UTV) vehicles.
Current Classes
MAORA divides its classes into two divisions: Pro classes and Trophy Classes. Pro classes generally involve more experienced racers and technologically advanced vehicles, and competitors race for money. Trophy classes follow a run-what-you-brung format with almost no rules, and top finishers receive trophies; novice racers typically compete here. All vehicles must have approved fuel cells, roll cages, racing seats, and safety belts, and drivers must wear fireproof suits and Snell approved helmets.
Class 7E is a pro class where the E stands for Economy; very few modifications are allowed, with engine modifications all but banned and suspension parts remaining stock and in stock location. Class 7S, also a pro class, was long reserved for 6-cylinder mini-trucks but now allows any 2-wheel drive pick-up truck with no restrictions. Class 7X is a Trophy Class for mini trucks that must remain almost bone stock except for safety additions like racing seats, roll cages, fuel cells, and battery placement; suspension, driveline, frame, and body must remain stock with opening doors retained.
Class 10 is one of MAORA's newest classes, an almost unlimited buggy class requiring only that the engine have no more than 4 cylinders.
Types of Races
Short-course racing takes place on tracks usually under 1 mile long, with races of a specified number of laps, typically 10. Each class races 3 heats, and the best average finish across all heats wins the event. Enduro races are the Midwest's answer to desert off-road racing, held on tracks between 1 and 5 miles long. All cars start at different intervals and race for a set time, with a normal Enduro lasting 3 hours.
