Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers – New Generation
A mobile role-playing game of demon battles and rank advancement.
Bbmf developed and published Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers – New Generation, a role-playing game that serves as a spin-off of Atlus's Devil Summoner series, which belongs to the Megami Tensei franchise. Released for Japanese feature phones on July 22, 2008, it was Bbmf's second project based on Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, after their 2007 strategy RPG Soul Hackers: Intruder. Combat is central: players, as devil summoners, fight other summoners' demons to climb the ranks and achieve mastery. Critics praised its combat depth, comparing it favorably to the original Soul Hackers.

Gameplay
The player takes the role of a devil summoner in a network-based world within the Soul Hackers setting, battling other summoners' demons to rise through eight ranks and earn the rank of master summoner. The player develops a team of demons, each with strengths, weaknesses, physical and magical attacks, and compatibility with each other; up to three demons are placed in the front and up to three in the back. Magnetite is used to summon demons into battle, and a defeated allied demon can be summoned again if the player has the required amount, with stronger demons requiring more magnetite; the player loses if they run out of demons and the needed magnetite. Challenge battles earn higher ranks, while repeatable free battles allow training. At Victor in Hotel Goumaden, the player can buy demons or fuse multiple demons into stronger ones that inherit magic skills. Over 200 types of demons exist, with a side objective to collect all of them.
Release and reception
New Generation was released for Japanese feature phones starting on July 22, 2008, through the Megaten Alpha mobile game distribution service, and later on services for other carriers throughout the year. The developers chose to focus on strategic combat challenges rather than the 3D dungeon-crawling of the original Soul Hackers. It was Bbmf's second mobile game based on Soul Hackers, after the 2007 strategy role-playing game Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers – Intruder; unlike Intruder, which is a sequel set half a year after Soul Hackers, New Generation was not set during any specific time. Critics liked the gameplay for being easy to grasp while offering depth, and Game Watch found it fitting for a mobile game as it allowed short play sessions. Reviewers also appreciated the depth of battles, comparing them to those of the original Soul Hackers, and liked the number of demon allies available.
