Lore & Background
Atelier Totori takes place five years after the events of Atelier Rorona. The story begins in the fishing village of Alanya, where Totooria Helmold (Totori) lives with her older sister Cecilia. After Rorona, Totori's alchemy teacher, collapses from hunger at their doorstep and accidentally destroys their house with a failed synthesis, she adopts Totori as a student. Totori believes her mother is still alive despite everyone else assuming she is dead, so she travels to Arland to become an adventurer and search for her. The game follows Totori over a five-year period as she explores the world, improves her alchemy, and seeks her mother.
The game features a cast including Totori's childhood friend Gino Knab, the experienced adventurer Melvia Siebel, the proud noble Mimi Houllier von Schwarzlang, the retired knight Sterkenburg Cranach, the eccentric scientist Marc McBrine, and Rorona's childhood friend Cordelia von Feuerbach. Totori's father Guid Helmold is barely noticed by his daughters. The game continues the series' focus on item synthesis, a hallmark of the Atelier franchise.
