Louis Domingue is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for Hockey Club Bolzano in the ICE Hockey League. He was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2010 NHL entry draft and began his NHL career with that organization. Over his career, he has also played in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York Rangers, as well as in the KHL for Sibir Novosibirsk.
Domingue played major junior hockey in the QMJHL after being drafted 13th overall by the Moncton Wildcats in the 2008 QMJHL entry draft. He later played for the Quebec Remparts and was selected for the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2010. The Phoenix Coyotes signed him to a three-year, entry-level contract on June 1, 2011. He spent the 2011–12 season with the Remparts, leading all QMJHL goaltenders with a .914 save percentage, then made his professional debut in 2012–13, splitting time between the AHL’s Portland Pirates and the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators.
Domingue was first called up to the NHL during the 2014–15 season after Arizona traded backup Devan Dubnyk. He made his NHL debut in relief on January 31, 2015, allowing two goals in a 7–2 loss to the Ottawa Senators. The next day, he earned his first NHL start and first win, a 3–2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. He finished the season as Mike Smith’s full-time backup. In 2015–16, after an injury to Smith, Domingue was recalled and eventually took over the starting role from Anders Lindbäck. He signed a two-year contract extension with Arizona on June 27, 2016.
Domingue began the 2017–18 season as Arizona’s backup but went winless in seven games after starter Antti Raanta was injured. He was placed on waivers and assigned to the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners on October 31, 2017, but was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 14, 2017, in exchange for Michael Leighton and Tye McGinn. The Lightning signed him to a two-year, $2.3 million extension on June 22, 2018. On December 10, 2018, he was named the NHL’s second star of the week. He set a franchise record with 11 straight wins from February 2 to February 19, 2019, breaking the previous Lightning record of nine. The streak ended on February 28, 2019, against the Boston Bruins.
