Noelvi Marte is a Dominican professional baseball third baseman and outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds. He made his MLB debut in 2023. Marte was born on October 16, 2001.
Career
Noelvi Marte began his professional career after signing with the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent in July 2018. He debuted the following year in the Dominican Summer League, where he posted a .309 average with nine home runs and 54 RBIs over 65 games. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the pandemic, so he sat out. In 2021, he played for both Modesto and Everett in the Mariners system, slashing .273/.366/.459 with 17 homers, 71 RBIs, 28 doubles, and 24 steals.
In July 2022, Seattle sent Marte, Edwin Arroyo, Andrew Moore, and Levi Stoudt to the Cincinnati Reds for Luis Castillo. The Reds assigned him to High-A Dayton, then added him to the 40-man roster that November to shield him from the Rule 5 draft.
He opened 2023 with Double-A Chattanooga, hitting .281/.356/.464 with eight homers and 25 RBIs in 50 games before moving up to Triple-A Louisville in late June. On August 19, he got his first big-league call-up. Over 35 rookie games, he batted .316/.366/.456 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and six steals.
In March 2024, Marte was hit with an 80-game suspension after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Boldenone. He returned on June 27 and appeared in 66 games for Cincinnati, slashing just .210/.248/.301 with four homers and 18 RBIs.
That winter, he played for Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League. The Reds optioned him to Triple-A Louisville to start 2025. On April 20, he crushed his first career grand slam off Baltimore’s Jorge Mateo during a 24-2 rout.
