Edwin Zaed Arroyo, a Puerto Rican infielder born on August 25, 2003, made his MLB debut for the Cincinnati Reds in 2026. The Seattle Mariners selected him in the second round (48th overall) of the 2021 draft, and he came to the Reds as part of the July 2022 trade for Luis Castillo. After recovering from shoulder surgery, Arroyo tore through Triple-A in 2026 before getting the call to the big leagues.
Professional career
Edwin Arroyo’s pro career kicked off in August 2021 with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Mariners, where he batted .211 with two homers and 10 RBIs over 21 games. The next year, he moved up to Single-A Modesto, slashing .316/.385/.514 with 13 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases in 87 games. On July 29, 2022, Seattle sent Arroyo, Noelvi Marte, Andrew Moore, and Levi Stoudt to the Reds for pitcher Luis Castillo. He finished that season with Single-A Daytona, hitting .227 with one homer and 16 RBIs in 27 games, plus six scoreless at-bats (0-for-6, one RBI) for the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Reds.
In 2023, he earned the Midwest League Top MLB Prospect Award while playing for the Dayton Dragons. A torn labrum in his left shoulder, suffered when he dove back to a base on a pickoff attempt during spring training, required season-ending surgery on March 20, 2024. In 2025, Arroyo played 120 games for Double-A Chattanooga, posting a .284/.345/.371 line with three homers, 44 RBIs, and 12 steals. Cincinnati added him to the 40-man roster on November 18, 2025, to shield him from the Rule 5 draft.
He started 2026 at Triple-A Louisville, hitting .323/.383/.562 with 11 homers, 34 RBIs, and nine steals in 53 games. After an injury to Elly De La Cruz, the Reds called Arroyo up to the majors for the first time on June 1, 2026.
