Alice Ingley
Australian recurve archer and Youth Olympic competitor.
Alice Ingley, an Australian archer born on 13 January 1993, hails from Western Australia and represents the Yokine Archery Club. She first appeared on the national stage in 2007 at the Australian Junior National Championships, and her international debut came two years later at the 2009 World Cup 2 in Turkey.
Originally from Subiaco, Western Australia, Ingley has also lived in the Australian Capital Territory. Her British ancestors once inhabited the same region as the historical Robin Hood. Right-handed, she has pursued a wide range of sports beyond archery, including netball, karate, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, athletics, and soccer. She attended Lake Ginninderra College and is studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Edith Cowan University.
Ingley took up archery at age twelve, motivated by a desire to play sports alongside her brothers and father, who were already involved in the discipline. At fifteen, she earned a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport, where she trained for two and a half years. She now competes in club events for Yokine Archery Club, training there with her older brother, Callum. Since 2009, her coach has been Simon Fairweather.
Her first national competition was the 2007 Australian Junior National Championships. The year 2009 proved pivotal: she not only made her international debut in Turkey but also claimed three Australian Youth Olympic titles and finished second at the Australian Senior National Championships. In 2010, she won the Australian Junior National Championships by a 155-point margin. That same year, she became Australia’s sole female archer at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, where she reached the quarter-finals of the individual women’s recurve event (ninth overall) and, with teammate Ben Nott, placed fifth in the mixed team event. She was subsequently named to the Australian team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
In 2011, Ingley competed at the World University Games in China and the World Archery Youth Championships in Poland. That September, she was selected for the Australian archery shadow Olympic team, attended a national training camp in Canberra, and traveled to London in October for the Olympic test event at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
