Taz-Mania

The Tasmanian Devil stars in his own sitcom.

Taz-Mania, an American animated sitcom from Warner Bros. Animation, ran on Fox Kids between 1991 and 1995 with the Tasmanian Devil as its star. In the same vein as other Warner Bros. cartoons like Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures, it often broke the fourth wall and featured gags where Taz could speak clearly if he wanted to. Jess Harnell and Jim Cummings sang the theme song.

Characters

The main character of the show is Taz the Tasmanian Devil, voiced by Jim Cummings, who appears in every episode. He is the older brother of Molly and Jake. Taz is messy, wild, perpetually hungry, afraid of water, and not very refined, but he is kinder and less violent than earlier versions of the character. He works as a bellhop at the Hotel Tazmania.

His mother, Jean Tazmanian Devil, voiced by Miriam Flynn, is a devoted and hardworking parent. Many episodes focus on her talking on the phone and managing a huge list of chores. The father, Hugh Tazmanian Devil, voiced by Maurice LaMarche doing an impression of Bing Crosby, is smooth, friendly, and sensible. He enjoys orange juice, golf, and bowling, and tends to explain things in excessive detail, often ending with "blah-blah-blah, yackity schmackity."

Molly Tazmanian Devil, voiced by Kellie Martin, is the sixteen-year-old sister. She is more controlled than Taz but still shares his wild and aggressive side, especially during sibling arguments. Jake Tazmanian Devil, voiced by Debi Derryberry, is the younger brother who is energetic, imaginative, cute, and looks up to Taz. The family pet is Dog the Turtle, with vocal effects by Rob Paulsen, a turtle that behaves like a dog.

Uncle Drew Tazmanian Devil, voiced by Maurice LaMarche impersonating Bob Hope, is cheerful, cool, quirky, and affectionate. He likes golf, bowling, telling jokes, and taking road trips, often dragging Taz along, in a nod to the old Hope and Crosby films. Taz’s boss is Bushwhacker Bob, voiced by Jim Cummings impersonating John Cleese. He is arrogant, incompetent, intimidating, and grumpy, serving as the hotel manager of the Hotel Tazmania.

As the owner, he is a snob who dislikes people and avoids work, leaving everything to his staff. His personality is based on Basil Fawlty from the British show Fawlty Towers. Bob’s mother, Mum, voiced by Rosalyn Landor, is the actual proprietor of the hotel. She is far more patient and clever than her son, and often embarrasses him by stating facts that are true.
