Scott Harrington (ice hockey)

Scott Harrington (born March 10, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL). He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round, 54th overall, of the 2011 NHL entry draft, and has also suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks, and Anaheim Ducks in the NHL, as well as the ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League. Harrington was born in Kingston, Ontario, to Pat and Cindy. His younger sister, Holly, also played hockey growing up. He was selected 19th overall by the London Knights in the 2009 OHL draft. In his rookie season (2009–10), he played 55 games, notching one goal and 13 assists for 14 points, earning a spot on the league’s First All-Rookie Team. The Knights reached the Western Conference semifinals before falling to the Kitchener Rangers; Harrington added two assists in 12 playoff games. The following season, he scored six goals and 22 points, but the Knights were eliminated in the first round by the eventual champion Owen Sound Attack, with Harrington adding one assist in six playoff games. In January 2011, he played in the CHL Top Prospects Game. In 2011–12, Harrington appeared in 44 games, scoring three goals and 26 points. The Knights won the OHL championship (J. Ross Robertson Cup) and advanced to the Memorial Cup final, where they lost to the Shawinigan Cataractes. Harrington had one goal and seven points in 19 playoff games and was named an OHL First Team All-Star alongside teammate Michael Houser. He returned for the 2012–13 season, posting three goals and 19 points in 50 games. The Knights repeated as OHL champions, beating the Barrie Colts, and Harrington added four assists in 17 playoff games. He was again named to the OHL First All-Star Team. At the 2013 Memorial Cup, the Knights were eliminated in the semifinals. After signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in July 2011, Harrington joined their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, on an amateur tryout for the 2013 playoffs, scoring one goal in two games. He spent the 2013–14 season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording five goals and 24 points in 76 games; the team reached the conference finals, where they lost to the St. John’s Maple Leafs, and Harrington had one assist in 16 playoff games.
