Baywatch Nights
A Baywatch spin-off that shifted from detective work to sci-fi.
Baywatch Nights ran in syndication from 1995 to 1997 as a science-fiction mystery drama. It was created by Douglas Schwartz, David Hasselhoff, and Gregory J. Bonann as a spin-off of Baywatch.
The first season follows Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff) starting a detective agency. His friend Sgt. Garner Ellerbee (Gregory Alan Williams) joins him, along with detective Ryan McBride (Angie Harmon), who joined the cast midway through the first season. Singer Lou Rawls played nightclub owner Lou Raymond, where the agency rented its office, and performed the theme song "After the Sun Goes Down" with Hasselhoff. Midway through the season, Eddie Cibrian and Donna D'Errico joined the cast.
For the second season, ratings lagged behind the original Baywatch, so producers shifted to a science-fiction format inspired by *The X-Files*. Gregory Alan Williams left and was replaced by Dorian Gregory as paranormal expert Diamont Teague. The change didn't revive the show, and it was canceled after the second season. Donna D'Errico later appeared on the original Baywatch series as a different character.
