Are You the One? is an American reality show where a group of singles are secretly matched into couples by an algorithm before moving in together. Their goal is to figure out all the perfect matches; if they succeed, the whole cast splits a prize that can reach $1 million. For the first seven seasons, all couples were male-female, but in season eight, a contestant’s match could be anyone, regardless of gender. Throughout a season, contestants go on dates—earned through competitions or, in the seventh season only, by using a "fate button" that randomly selects partners. They can also test a couple in the "truth booth" to see if they are a correct match. If a match is confirmed there, that pair heads to the honeymoon suite and is locked together for all future matching ceremonies. At the end of each episode, everyone pairs up in a "matching ceremony" and learns how many perfect matches they have, but not which ones. Starting with season three, the prize money was reduced whenever the house failed to identify any new matches beyond those already confirmed in the truth booth.
