Aqua Teen Hunger Force, sometimes given different titles for its eighth through eleventh seasons, is an American adult animated TV show created by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro. It aired on Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim block and was produced by Williams Street. The series centers on the bizarre adventures of three anthropomorphic fast-food items—Master Shake, Meatwad, and Frylock—who share a home and frequently feud with their human neighbor, Carl. Its crude digital cutout animation and absurdist humor helped shape the early identity of Adult Swim.
The first episode aired on Cartoon Network on December 30, 2000, and the show officially debuted on Adult Swim on September 9, 2001. Willis and Maiellaro wrote and directed every episode and also voiced several characters. As a running joke, seasons 8 through 11 each had a different title and theme music. The series originally ended on August 30, 2015, but returned for one more season on November 26, 2023, finally concluding on December 17, 2023. With 144 episodes across 12 seasons, it is the longest-running series on Cartoon Network.
A film adaptation, *Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters*, hit theaters on April 13, 2007, marking the first feature-length film based on an Adult Swim series. A spin-off of ten online shorts called *Aquadonk Side Pieces* was released on the official Adult Swim YouTube channel in April 2022, and a direct-to-video film, *Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm*, came out on November 8, 2022.
**Premise**
The show follows the surreal antics of three anthropomorphic fast-food items: Master Shake, a selfish, pathological liar of a milkshake; Frylock, a calm, intelligent box of French fries; and Meatwad, a shapeshifting, childlike ball of ground meat. They live together and often clash with their neighbor Carl, a middle-aged, boorish, lecherous sports fan. Most episodes introduce new antagonists, and some feature cameos by celebrities playing fictionalized versions of themselves.
Recurring antagonists include the Mooninites, two aliens from the Moon who frequently cause illegal or destructive chaos. They appear more often than most non-main characters. Other recurring figures include Oglethorpe and Emory, MC Pee Pants, the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future, and Markula.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force helped define the tone of Adult Swim's early programming through its crude digital cutout animation style and absurdist humor. The series was one of Adult Swim's most popular shows. Its three main characters were originally created for an episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast called 'Baffler Meal', where they were corporate mascots for a fictional fast-food chain. The original name 'Teen Hunger Force' referred to the squad's mission to conquer hunger in teens. In early episodes, the trio was identified as the Aqua Teen Hunger Force solving crimes, a premise added to appease Cartoon Network executives who 'didn't want to air a show about food just going around and doing random things'. This premise was later dropped. For its first eleven seasons, the show was animated with an off-the-shelf, low-budget software pipeline using Photoshop, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro, relying heavily on reusing static digital graphics and limited cutout movements. The twelfth season in 2023 transitioned to conventional digital 2D vector animation by Floyd County Productions.
