Premise
The series uses mockumentary techniques to follow Forrest MacNeil, a professional critic who hosts a show called Review. Viewers ask him to experience any life activity, which he then rates on a five-star scale. His compulsive curiosity and commitment to the show increasingly damage his personal life.
Cast
Forrest MacNeil, played by Andy Daly, is the naive, repressed host of the show-within-a-show Review. He wears the same clothes in every episode and carries out viewer requests regardless of personal cost. A.J. Gibbs, portrayed by Megan Stevenson, is his cheerful co-host whose wardrobe changes frequently; she activates the review selection system and often serves as an ignored voice of reason. Suzanne MacNeil, played by Jessica St. Clair, is Forrest's wife of 14 years who becomes his hostile ex-wife after he initiates divorce proceedings in season one's third episode because a viewer asked about divorce. The divorce devastates both, and Suzanne follows through, leaving Forrest without his best friend, house, half his money, and full custody of their son. Lucille, played by Tara Karsian, is Forrest's dour executive assistant who shows grudging loyalty despite her lack of respect for him. Josh, played by Michael Croner, is the unpaid college intern whom Forrest frequently exploits. Grant Grunderschmidt, played by James Urbaniak, is Forrest's taciturn producer who pushes him to complete assignments. Jack T. Walthall, played by Fred Willard, is Forrest's accidentally ironic ex-father-in-law who dies during the "Space" review when he forgets his seatbelt. Daisy, played by Julie Brister, is Forrest's inept attorney.
