History
godheadSilo began in 1991 as a three-piece with guitarist Phil Leitch, who left after the group's first show at Fargo's Moose Lodge. Thereafter the band performed and recorded as a two-piece. Their first release was a contribution to the Moo Bob Records compilation Nodak: Distorted Hallucinations in 1992 with the track "Pull." The duo relocated to Olympia, Washington, and signed with Kill Rock Stars, releasing their debut album The Scientific Supercake L.P. in 1994.
When played with bass settings at maximum, the album could damage speakers and stereo systems. After a five-week tour with Sebadoh, they signed to Sub Pop, which released Skyward in Triumph in 1996 and Share the Fantasy in 1998. The band has been on hiatus since the latter release. Mike Kunka and Dan Haugh later formed Smoke and Smoke with Murder City Devils vocalist Spencer Moody, releasing Love Suffers Long in 2004.
Haugh stated that the band never officially broke up; he suffered a severe accident that nearly severed his hand, and doctors said he would never play drums again. After years of physical and occupational therapy, he regained enough function to hold a drumstick. In 2015, godheadSilo reunited for a concert commemorating Ralph's Corner, a Moorhead venue that closed in 2005. On April 1, 2016, Sub Pop released Three Men and a Baby, a collaborative album between the Melvins and Mike Kunka, recorded in 1998 and completed later.
The band undertook a short American tour in January 2017, with ten shows planned. Haugh expressed interest in recording, while Kunka did not.
