Making and release
In 1998, Atlantic Records A&R John Rubeli saw them play live at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip and the band was quickly signed to a major-label deal.[2] On February 19, 2003, guitarist Curiel left the band due to his side project and "spiritual differences"[3] During 1991, Sandoval was the frontman for Unlicensed Product, a rap/hip-hop act, while Bernardo, Curiel, and Gabe Portillo played together in Eschatos, a thrash metal band.[4] The group's name originates from the financial term "Payable on Death."[5]
When the band required a bassist for several performances in 1994 to fill in for Portillo, Traa Daniels became a member.[6] Jason Truby, who had been a member of the Christian metal band Living Sacrifice, took over for Curiel.[3] Through their online newsletter on August 11, 2006, P.O.D. communicated their departure from Atlantic Records.[7]
What the cited sources add
Sandoval explained that renowned session drummer Robin Diaz laid down the drum tracks for "Veritas", marking the first P.O.D. LP that doesn't feature Bernardo.[8] Sandoval said that touring drummer Alex Lopez reached out to Curiel as friends, even to help out drum teching.[8] The band started tracking their 12th studio album with producer Will Yip on April 13, 2026, the first time the band has ever recorded outside of California.[9] Sandoval mentioned that Curiel is trying out a 7-string guitar for the new material, remarking, "This is the first time that Marcos is rocking a seven-string."[10]
